Ferdinand was the prospective heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. The war was directly triggered by the 28th June 1914, the assassination of Austria's Archduke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo in Bosnia by a Yugoslavian citizen called Gavrilo Princip (Mombauer, 2015). The Allied Powers were composed of nations such as Britain, France, Russians, and the United States while the Central Powers was made up of countries like Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary. The countries that participated in this war were divided into two main groups the Allied Powers and Central Powers. The First World War began on 28th July of the year 1914 and officially ended on 11th November 1918 after Germany which was facing internal revolutionary issues agreed to a cease-fire. Scholars like the late Fritz Fischer are one of those individuals who are of the opinion that Germany was the chief instigator of the war. The participation of Germans in the war has raised various debates on whether or not the nation should be blamed for being the initiator of the war. The war also caused massive land destruction since most of the nations that participated in the war utilized powerful artilleries such as bombs and landmines in executing their attacks. The First World War was one of the most vicious global conflicts that lead to the death of more than nine million military men and women, and over seven million civilians (Kramer, 2014).

6/12/2023 0 Comments Shattered Vow by Eva ChaseThe X-Men meets Corrupt by Penelope Douglas □□ I binged this book last night. The 180 spin on his attitude is grating.Īs for the other guys….they’re there? They don’t feel very developed in comparison to other why choose books I’ve read, the author is leaning heavily on them all growing up together and not developing their personalities to stand on their own. And I know there’s a short available from his POV during the train scene but I can’t describe how much I don’t want or care about that. I know Riva is going to forgive them and fall into bed with them, that’s just how these stories go, but I don’t think any amount of groveling would make up for getting enjoyment out of telepathically twisting up her insides. I know he’s supposed to be the rough, “cranky” one of the group but Riva is supposed to still LIKE him? After he takes enjoyment digging through her body and TWISTING UP HER VEINS, we’re supposed to believe Riva wanting to kill herself magically changed his mind about her? It feels like a scramble to get things moving positive for book 2, and was jarring. Of all the guys, he’s SO despicably awful. She’s so tiny, all the guys call her some nickname about how small she is compared to them), it was still interesting enough to keep me reading. Outside of the annoying repetitiveness of Riva being ‘so tiny, petite and smol’ (SCREAMS pick me choose me, it gets exhausting. 6/12/2023 0 Comments Flung Out of Space by Grace EllisThis is not just the story behind a classic queer book, but of a queer artist who was deeply flawed. However, one of those very affairs and a chance encounter in a department store give Pat the idea for her soon-to-be beloved tale of homosexual love that was the first of its kind-it gave the lesbian protagonists a happy ending. Her brain churns with images of the great novel she could and should be writing-what will eventually be Strangers on a Train- which would later be adapted into a classic film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1951.Īt the same time, Pat, a lesbian consumed with self-loathing, is in and out of conversion therapy, leaving a trail of sexual conquests and broken hearts in her wake. A drinker, a smoker, and a hater of life, Pat knows she can do better. Flung Out of Space opens with Pat begrudgingly writing low-brow comics. Veteran comics creators Grace Ellis and Hannah Templer have teamed up to tell this story through Highsmith’s eyes-reimagining the events that inspired her to write the story that would become a foundational piece of queer literature. Flung Out of Space Inspired by the Indecent Adventures of Patricia Highsmith By Grace EllisĪ fictional and complex portrait of bestselling author Patricia Highsmith caught up in the longing that would inspire her queer classic, The Price of Saltįlung Out of Space is both a love letter to the essential lesbian novel, The Price of Salt, and an examination of its notorious author, Patricia Highsmith. 6/11/2023 0 Comments The lost rosesBut when Austria declares war on Serbia and Russia's imperial dynasty begins to fall, Eliza escapes back to America, while Sofya and her family flee to their country estate. I love the Incursions as a concept, it does feel grand as a threat, hope this makes it into the MCU one day. it's not even the worst thing he has to worry about. T'Challa not only struggles with Namor, but is also losing support from his own people and that's an interesting development to see unfold. Namor and Black Panther definitely have the best dynamic and it's a reason why New Avengers wins out over the other series. I expected this because it's a team book (x2) and you have even more characters to juggle, but there are only a few characters so far that I feel get explored enough. There's a family dynamic there and in Avengers that's mostly gone. You have Ben feeling like an outsider on top of his appearance, Reed shutting himself off for long stretches (no pun intended) of time, Susan feeling the need to hold everything together. Hickman's run was my first FF story and I understood immediately why the team had been a Marvel staple for decades, since there's so much in the dynamics to mine. Even though there was a lot going on in his FF already, there was still enough focus on the members of the team and how they interacted with eachother. The way Hickman weaves different plots together is impressive and is on the same level as his Fantastic Four run, but there's something important missing here that FF did have: more characterization and character dynamics for the main cast. 6/11/2023 0 Comments Circus mirandus by cassie beasleyWhen he was a child, he visited a magical circus, the Circus Mirandus, which changed his life forever. This story was my chance to give readers a backstage pass to the circus and let people discover the nooks and crannies that I couldn't show the first time around.Īnd Micah's coming into his own as a magician in this book. I always want to see behind the scenes of a magical world. Of course I love all of my stories, but I think Bootlace is the book that best matches my tastes as a reader. It's the sequel to Circus Mirandus, and I feel like this one is for readers who finished that book and thought, "Okay, I'm ready for more of the circus, more of Micah learning about his talent, and lots more magic." The Bootlace Magician is coming on October 1! I'm so, so, so happy about this story.
